Many CFOs are re-evaluating their corporations’ risk-management strategies—is their own pay being affected? Our findings:
- Median total compensation for S&P 600 CFOs fell 0.64% in 2009, to $840,903, but bonuses were up a solid 14.8%, with a median CFO bonus of $145,457.
- Industrial Goods CFOs have the highest median compensation, at $1.0 million, while the biggest drop in pay from 2008 to 2009 went to Basic Materials and Energy CFOs, with a 27.6% decrease.
- While a majority of 2008 equity awards are underwater, those receiving grants in early 2009 saw major gains in intrinsic value as the market has recovered.
