Many CFOs are re-evaluating their corporations’ risk-management strategies—is their own pay being affected? Key findings:
- Median total compensation for S&P 400 CFOs fell 2.7% in 2009, to $1.399 million, but bonuses were up a solid 14.8%, with a median CFO bonus of $280,000.
- Consumer Goods CFOs have the highest median compensation, at $1.75 million, while the biggest drop in pay from 2008 to 2009 went to Industrial Goods CFOs, with a 21.8% decrease.
- While a majority of 2008 equity awards are underwater, those receiving grants in early 2009 saw major gains in intrinsic value as the market has recovered.
