Bonus Plan Design for 2009 Report

Although negative public opinion and political pressure have primarily focused on Wall Street, other firms are not immune from scrutiny of their executive bonuses. Some key findings:

  • Median bonus payouts for CEOs fell 19.1% in 2008, with discretionary cash awards falling 46.5%.
  • Companies with fiscal years closest to the end of 2008 saw the biggest drops in CEO bonus payouts
  • Nearly 15% of executives received no bonus at all in 2008, compared to 6.9% in 2007
